The Spanish-Venezuelan tennis player Garbiñe Muguruza overcame his first troubles in the Australian Open, the first 'Grand Slam' of the season, and managed to qualify for the second round on Tuesday after winning the American Shelby Rogers in three sets by 0- 6, 6-1, 6-0.

After having to leave Hobart last week because of a viral infection, the double winner of 'Grand Slam' found a debut that was put uphill after a bad first half, but that was saved thanks to a good reaction and a scare in the form of a medical review.

That of Caracas had won without losing a partial its two previous confrontations with the American, 155 of the world and with more competitive rhythm after overcoming the previous one, but in just half an hour the panorama was not promising.

Muguruza came out very erratic and without energy. Without being able to connect his powerful service and accumulating many unforced errors (10), he could not contain a more inspired rival (10 winners) and who endorsed an always painful 'thread'. The appearance of a doctor on a break to look at the health of the number one in the world also set off alarms.

However, Conchita Martínez's pupil knew how to get out of that bad moment and did it in an overwhelming way. He regained his service, his aggressive winning strokes appeared (16 between the second and third set) and left without options a Rogers who did not win any of his services and was only able to win one more game to the rest. The Australian Ajla Tomljanovic will be the next rival in Melbourne Park of the Hispanic-Venezuelan.
