Garach achieves the Olympic minimum in Doha in the 800 freestyle and Arbidel González advances to the 200 butterfly semifinals

The Spanish swimmer Carlos Garach achieved this Tuesday at the Doha World Cup the Olympic minimum to be in the Paris Games in the 800 meter freestyle, while Arbidel González reached the semifinals of the 200 butterfly.

The Granada swimmer clocked a time of 7:50.56 during the morning series of the event, which, although it was not enough for him to enter the final, finishing with the fifteenth best time of the participants, did give him the prize of being able to be in Paris next summer. .

“I am very happy. It has been many months and many years preparing this, and I can finally say that I am qualified for the Games. The truth is that I am very excited, it has cost me a lot and it has been a very hard race,” said Garach. in statements provided by the RFEN.

The Andalusian swimmer confessed that he had “a bit of a bad taste in his mouth” for not having been able to get into the final. “I know it was difficult, but there were possibilities. Now to rest, look at recovery for the 1,500, do my best and try to do as little as possible for the Games and why not get into the final. This in the end is a plus and I It helps me improve and continue motivating me for what's to come,” he stressed.

The morning session in the pool for the Spanish delegation also had the positive news of Arbidel González's passage to the semifinals in the 200 butterfly. The Spaniard was third in his series with a time of 1:57.20, which allowed him to pass the series with the eleventh best time.

The 16-year-old girl from Madrid, María Daza, was not so lucky in the 200 freestyle where she was unable to advance after finishing with the twenty-fifth best time (2:00.42), although significantly improving her personal best.
