Adriano Galliani, director general of Monza -recently promoted to Serie A- and right-hand man of Silvio Berlusconi, president of the Italian club, assured this Monday that “The goal in the first year is salvation.”
Berlusconi and Galliani, that as owner and CEO, respectively, were the two architects of the ‘great Milan’ that reigned in a large part of Serie A and the Champions League in the 80s and 90s, they reunited at Monza, after both left the Milan club .
For the first time in its 110-year history, the city of Monza will have its team in the top flight of Italian football. All thanks to a Berlusconi who acquired the club in 2018 and that with great economic outlay has raised the competitive ceiling of the Lombard team.

So much so that when the promotion was completed almost a month ago, Berlusconi himself said that Monza’s objective in the long term it was to fight for the ‘scudetto’ and the Champions. There is a long way to go for that, and Galliani, who was also his right-hand man at Milan, is well aware.
“Our objective in the first year is the salvation. We are now racing against the clock to reopen the East Stand of the stadium, with which the capacity will exceed 10,000 seats. It is a very complex job, at the moment there are difficulties,” the director told Radio anch’io Sport, from Rai Radio 1.
“If we stay in Serie A, a renovated stadium is planned for next year, based on the model of the Dacia Arena in Udine,” he revealed.
Monza will debut in the top flight against Torinobut Berlusconi and Galliani have their sights set on the match against Milan, a team they led for 31 years (1986-2017), a match that “will be special.”
“31 years have sculpted the ‘rossoneri’ colors in the heart of President Berlusconi and mine. I have already told Paolo Maldini that I hope to have my usual place in the stadiumand not having to go to the guest sector,” he confessed.
In addition, Galliani commented on the current situation in Serie A and the dominance of the Premier: “The league has changed, hoday in Europe there are those that invoice 3-4 times more, like the Premier League. The wealth has moved to the United States and Asia, where the abundance of raw materials allows for almost unlimited resources.”
“I think it’s very difficult for Serie A players to win the Ballon d’Or. in the future. Stars are attracted by salaries that we can no longer afford,” Galliani added.
