Futre, new image of Atlético’s season ticket: “I’m excited”

For several years, the Atletico Madrid is honoring its legends by turning them into the image of the season’s membership card. And for 22-23, the rojibanco club has chosen the Paulo Futrewhich takes over from Luis Aragonés, Adelardo and Garate.

“I’m excited, I have no words”, confesses the Portuguese, on the verge of tears when he sees the image that will illustrate the card of the more than 100,000 rojiblancos followers who have this link with the club, whether they are subscribers or not. “There is nothing that makes me happier right now.”

The iconic photograph is of Futre jumping celebrating a goal, and the Portuguese remembers it as if it had been taken yesterday. “It’s Atleti and me”he points out, and then shows himself very grateful for the detail with the club and also with the parents and grandparents of the children who today continue to recognize him on the street from what they told them at home.

Futre arrived at Atlético de Madrid in 1987 from Porto as brand-new European champion and as rojiblanco he won two titles, the Copa del Rey in 1991 and 1992. But beyond metal, the Portuguese was the first (and sometimes only) idol of a whole generation of athletes who began to live the rojiblanca passion and believe in this team with the help of Paulo Futre.
