The president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Franco, reiterated this Tuesday that the Government is going to undertake “the largest investment in sport in the last 30 years” and that the amounts allocated for this in the General State Budgets for 2022 maintain an upward trend “to protect, preserve and promote Spanish sport.”
“We are facing the largest investment in sport in the last 30 years, before a historical milestone to face the challenge of the renewal and transformation of our sports model,” Franco assured this Monday during his appearance in the Congress of Deputies to detail the budgets allocated to his body in the preliminary draft of the General State Budgets for 2022, “a firm commitment by the Government to sport as an economic and social engine.”
The president of the CSD was “proud” that the Government has allocated almost 1,000 million euros since 2019 to the promotion of Spanish sport and sure of the “immeasurable strength of the sporting phenomenon to reactivate the country and the entire citizenry.”
“These budgets maintain the trend of expansive growth to protect, preserve and promote Spanish sport. They are public accounts designed to guarantee the transformation of the sector towards an efficient and sustainable model, to definitively combat the gender gaps in sport, to advance in the equality and inclusion “, he stressed.
As reported by the Council in a press release, the leader explained that the amount allocated by his department in regard to the ordinary item reaches 208 million euros, an increase of seven million with respect to 2021 that “will go entirely to the women’s sport for the definitive impulse of the women’s professional soccer league because equality in sport is and will be a priority objective of the legislature and the Government “.
In addition, the item from recovery funds also increases, which amounts to 107 million euros, of which 31.8 million will be allocated entirely to the Social Plan for Sports and the development of sports policies for inclusion and equality.
In the same way, Franco highlighted the “exponential increase” in the games destined for Olympic and Paralympic sport, with 3.31 million for the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), almost four times more than in 2020, when he received only 875,000 euros, while that the Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE) goes from having 400,000 euros, its assigned figure in 2020, to 1,376,000 euros in 2022.

COMMITTING TO A “STRONG AND NEW MODEL” IN THE PREPARATION
The Council’s budgets for next year also include an increase in subsidies to sports federations amounting to 55,886,750 euros, almost 3 million more (5.38 percent) than this 2021.

For its part, the items created in 2021 to support Sport and Women, of 2,550,000 euros, and of social aid to women of athletes, of 450,000, are maintained and consolidated in these budgets, as well as the 750,000 assigned to federations to develop inclusive sport projects.
Franco also noted the 50 percent increase in aid to federations for sports activities at school age, reaching 1,500,000 euros, in order to enhance “the basis of sports associations and early sports practice.”
