Four things to think about after hearing that the Eagles hired Kellen Moore as their offensive coordinator

That’s right, Kellen Moore was back in the NFC East and ready to cause his old team as well as the coaching staff a lot of trouble.

Adam Schefter said that the former playcaller for the Cowboys and Chargers has been hired as the offensive coordinator for the Eagles. This comes just a few days after the squad fired Brian Johnson.

Moore was the Chargers’ offensive coordinator in 2023. He is 35 years old. He left the Dallas Cowboys after five years to work for Brandon Staley’s team in January 2023.

The Chargers had the 18th most yards and the 21st most points in 2023. Moore was the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys in 2019. Their offense had the most yards and scored the sixth most points.

Sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter in Saturday that the Philadelphia Eagles have recruited Kellen Moore, who used to be the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers and the Dallas Cowboys. Moore will be their new offensive coordinator.

Two days ago, the Eagles signed Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator. This was the first step in Nick Sirianni’s plan to change the coaching staff. Brian Johnson was fired earlier this week, and Moore will take his place.

Moore, 35, only stays in Los Angeles for one season before leaving. Before that, from 2019 to 2022, he was the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys.

During that time, his offense was one of the best in the league in terms of points per game (27.7), yards each game (391), and third-down conversion percentage (44%).

In 2023, quarterback Jalen Hurts tossed a career-high 15 interceptions, and the Eagles dropped from third in indicates per game (28.1) to seventh (25.5).

They also went from ninth in passing (241.5 YPG) to sixteenth (225.5) and from fifth in rushing (147.6 YPG) to eighth (128.1). He will be in charge of an offense that took a step back.

The Eagles started the season by winning 10 of their first 11 games. But as the season went on, they lost 11 of their last 12 games and lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 32–9 in the wild-card round.

When Moore leaves, Los Angeles will not have a head coach. The Chargers hired Jim Harbaugh earlier this week and will fill the void.

After being kind of fired by the Los Angeles Chargers just three days ago, Kellen Moore is now going to work for the Eagles as their offensive coordinator.

The NFL Network broke the story late Saturday night. It happened just two days after the Eagles hired Vic Fangio as their defensive coordinator, just one day after he was fired by the Miami Dolphins.

Even though the Chargers hired Jim Harbaugh as an head coach on Wednesday, Moore wasn’t fired by them.

The Chargers did let Moore talk to other teams, though, after blocking him before. The Chargers likely did that to have a backup plan in case Harbaugh chose to stay at Michigan.

Moore just finished the inaugural campaign with the Chargers, where he worked with quarterback Justin Herbert. Before that, he had worked with Dak Prescott for four years with the Dallas Cowboys.

Moore, who is only 35 years old, will likely play a big part in shaping an Eagles’ offense. The Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2022, and Jalen Hurts was the runner-up for MVP. It will be his job to help Hurts get back to that level of play.

“That’s exciting to me—some new ideas coming together with some old ones,” Sirianni said. “By the end of the year, our offense got a little old.

Moore’s offenses have a lot of motion before the snap, which is different from Sirianni’s. And the new person and these ideas are meant to get rid of the old stuff and make what they’re putting to the offense more valuable.

After two years of having the NFL’s best offense in terms of yards per game, Moore was seen as a rising star as a coach in Dallas. The only time the Cowboys weren’t in the top 11 was in 2020 when Prescott starred in only five games.
