Formula 1 will observe a minute of silence for the young driver Dilano van’t Hoff

MADRID, 2 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Formula 1 will observe a minute of silence before the Austrian Grand Prix race this Sunday in memory of the young Dutch driver Dilano van’t Hoff, who died on Saturday after a serious accident in Spa-Francorchamps.

Van’t Hoff, 18, was taking part in the second race in Spa of the European Regional Formula Championship (FRECA), which was celebrating its fourth round of the season on the Belgian track.

During the last stage of the second race of the day there was an accident at the entrance of the Kemmel straight, where visibility was poor due to the rain. Among those involved were the Swiss Joshua Dufek, the American Enzo Scionti, the Irishman Adam Fitzgerald and Van’t Hoff himself.

It was these last two who staged the most serious action, with Fitzgerald brutally impacting, in the shape of a ‘T’, against the Dutchman’s car. Both were taken to the hospital, where Van’t Hoff died after failing to overcome his injuries.

French driver Anthoine Hubert died four years ago after a similar accident on a circuit that has already claimed 49 lives. The Belgian track will host the last Formula 1 test before the summer holidays at the end of this month.

The current Formula 1 world champion, the Dutch Max Verstappen (Red Bull), was “incredibly sad” by the death of his compatriot. “I didn’t know him personally, but he was a promising Dutch driver, who had the same dreams as us at that age of wanting to get to Formula 1,” he said on Saturday after hearing the news.

“We have to analyze these situations. It’s easy to blame the track, but seeing how wet it was, there are definitely things we have to look at in the future to do a better job of protecting the drivers, because today was clearly unnecessary. “, he pointed.
