Former Swedish coach Sven-Göran Eriksson dies aged 76

MADRID, 26 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Former Swedish coach Sven-Göran Eriksson died on Monday at the age of 76 from terminal pancreatic cancer, his agent announced.

The news comes days after the premiere of the documentary ‘Sven’ on August 23, which stars the former England manager between 2001 and 2006, who won a total of 18 titles between his time at Lazio, Benfica, Gothenburg, Sampdoria and Roma, among many other teams.

In the documentary, Eriksson, who announced in January of this year that he had been diagnosed with the serious illness and that “at most” he had a year to live, said goodbye by thanking all those he met during his long career in the world of football, and stating that he would like to be remembered “as a good man.”

“I’ve had a good life. We all have our dying day, but life is also death. You have to learn to accept it as it is. Hopefully, in the end people will say ‘yes, he was a good man’, but not everyone will. I hope they remember me as a positive guy who tried to do everything he could. Don’t regret it, smile. Thank you for everything, coaches, players, fans… It’s been fantastic. Take care of yourself and take care of your life. And live it. Goodbye,” concluded the former coach.
