Football closes the doors to 1.5 million fans

The spread of the coronavirus has caused all football events in the next two weeks to be played without audiences, affecting a total of 1,493,063 followers in Spain. Moreover, this circumstance and the fact that the safety of players and club workers is not fully guaranteed has led AFE and some teams to claim that they not only play behind closed doors, but also suspend and be postponed to other dates. That is to say, as it has happened in Italy, where Series A will not be played nor a single sporting event until the beginning of April and always depending on the evolution of the disease

In addition, there are already many authorized voices of the sport that have claimed that the competition is meaningless if there is no audience behind to accompany the successes of his team. For example, LeBron James has flatly refused to jump to the court without followers or the Celtic has issued an official statement to explain its position: “Football without fans makes no sense and playing behind closed doors is totally inappropriate“But how many people can be affected this weekend by the inability to access the stadiums?

First Division: 396,270 fans without football

More than 80,000 people will remain without going to Santiago Bernabéu. The Camp Nou or the Wanda Metropolitano were not scheduled to host their teams for day 28. The clubs have already announced that they will return the amount of tickets already purchased to their fans. Even so, a total of 396,270 spectators will not go to the stadium this weekend (plus the emptiness of the Eibar-Real Sociedad). However, the fiefs do not usually hang the sign of no bills. If the average number of followers were respected, it would be just over 300,000 who could not cheer on their respective clubs.

Second Division: 265,247 fans without football

The closed door imposed by the Spanish government also affects LaLiga SmartBank. The competition, for the moment, will not stop. At least, that has guaranteed the employer after communicating Thebes to the media that only the normal pace will stop if they indicate this from the Congress of Deputies. With promotions, Playoffs and descents at stake, clubs will have to deal with an unprecedented circumstance years ago: play without their audience. With two days without fans, all teams in the category will see their stadiums bled. This is how this weekend affects:
