Foggia postpones Acosta’s alirón in Moto3

Masià and the Murcian take the podium in Misano

MADRID, 24 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Italian rider Dennis Foggia (Honda) has prevailed this Sunday in the Moto3 race of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix and has prevented the World Championship leader, the Spanish Pedro Acosta (KTM), who has managed to get on the podium in the At the last moment, he could be proclaimed champion, although he will have his second ‘match-ball’ in Portugal.

The Murcian, who arrived at the meeting with 30 points of advantage over the transalpine in the general, could not take advantage of his best starting position -fifth- and surrendered to the Foggia exhibition, which was able to come back from the fourteenth place in grill to the top of the podium.

A victory for Mazarrón and a thirteenth place or worse for the Italian would have allowed him to lift the title, but he finally had to settle for climbing to the third drawer after beating Italian Stefano Nepa (KTM) and South African Darryn Binder (Honda) in the absence of two turns to go. The also Spanish Jaume Masià (KTM), second, completed the podium.

With his seventh podium of the year, Acosta adds vital points to have a new opportunity to ‘win’ in two weeks in the Algarve in the penultimate round of the World Championship. To do this, he will have to score at least five points from Foggia, who is now 21 points behind in the general classification.

In his first ‘match-ball’ for the small-displacement title, the Mazarrón driver lost a couple of positions to seventh once the traffic lights were off, and his main rival for the championship began his comeback. The Italian Niccolò Antonelli (KTM), ‘poleman’ on Saturday, managed to defend his position of privilege, which lasted until Acosta attacked the head on lap 12.

Despite doing his part, Foggia’s good run coming from behind negated his chances of winning the title. The Roman driver stormed the lead with nine laps to go to the checkered flag and did not let go of it despite the threat from Masià, and Acosta neutralized the blow a bit by winning two places in the final stage.

As for the rest of the Spanish, Xavi Artigas (Honda) finished in ninth position, Izan Guevara (Gas Gas) was twelfth, just ahead of Adrián Fernández (Husqvarna) and Jeremy Alcoba (Honda), and Dani Holgado (KTM) finished twentieth . Carlos Tatay (KTM) failed to finish.
