The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, lamented the death this Tuesday of the former player of the club and president of Honor, Amancio Amaro, a person who carried the Madrid team “in his heart” and who was one of its “great legends”.
“Today is a day of enormous sadness for all Real Madrid fans and for the entire world of football. First of all, on behalf of Real Madrid and on my own behalf, I would like to convey our deepest condolences on the death of our beloved Honorary President “, Amancio Amaro. All our love and all our strength for his wife Consuelo; for his 6 children; for his brother Juan Carlos; for his 12 grandchildren and for the other relatives and loved ones,” Florentino Pérez said on the club’s website.
The leader recalled that the Galician “is one of the great legends” of the 14-time European champion, of whom he was “one of the best players” in his history and “one of the best football wingers in the world.” “And above all, he has been an example of what our club’s values represent,” he added.
“All Madridistas and all fans of this sport will forever remember his great record at Real Madrid, with nine Leagues and three Spanish Cups. And especially our historic sixth European Cup at the Heysel Stadium in Brussels in front of thousands of emigrants Spaniards from all over Europe who attended that unforgettable final”, continued the president.
Nor did he forget how “unforgettable” was the conquest of the first European Championship in the history of the Spanish team in 1964, with Amancio Amaro as a component and protagonist in that team, and stressed that the Galician was “a member of the world team of FIFA” that in 1968 was measured against Pelé’s Brazil on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the first star of the ‘canarinha’.
