Flick is left without The Best despite his record with Bayern

Hans Dieter-Flick
, the coach who revitalized Bayern Munich in the 2019-20 season, he could not win this Thursday with the award of Best FIFA Coach at The Best Awards since he was surpassed by his compatriot from Liverpool, Jürgen Klopp, which won its second The Best in a row.

Flick, who seemed the best placed among the finalists to win The Best, took command of the Bayern bench on an interim basis on November 3, 2019 after the dismissal of Niko Kovac, who was coming off a humiliating defeat (5-1) against Eintracht Frankfurt. After a stellar debut (4-0 at Dortmund at the Allianz Arena), Flick was followed by a winning streak with the Bavarians that allowed him to complete a record of titles in less than a year in office thanks to the triumphs in the Champions League, European Super Cup, Bundesliga, to which were added German Cup and Super Cup, which also credited 2020 UEFA Coach of the Year.

Flick replaced Niko Kovac on the Bavarian team, of which he was his assistant, and had never been the head coach of a professional team. His experience at the highest level on the bench was limited to his eight years as assistant to Joachim Löw in the German national team, conquering the 2014 World Cup in Brazil in the shadow of the charismatic ‘Jogi’. After this appointment, he resigned his position to take the position of sports director of the German Football Federation.

From acting to star coach

A acting coach, Flick was only supposed to stay for a few days, the time necessary for Bayern to find a star coach to fill Kovac's vacancy. The Croatian had lost the thread with the costumes, the team's game was predictable, without soul or momentum. Based on work and resultsOn December 22, 2019, Flick was already confirmed as Bayern coach until the end of the season. And in April 2020 he signed a new contract until 2023 in a club of which he was also a player between 1985 and 1990, in which he won four Bundesligas and a German Cup. A serious ligament tear would take him off the pitch three seasons later. He was only 28 years old.

He has turned Bayern into a 'roller'

Flick, born 55 years ago in the German town of Heidelberg, has turned Bayern into a 'roller' that has been passing over the rivals who have crossed his path in a year of honor for the team and the German coach. To highlight, the 7-1 inflicted on Chelsea in two games and, above all, the historic 2-8 against Barcelona in the last quarterfinals of the Champions League played in Lisbon. Then, he beat 3-0 in the 'semis' at Lyon and closed with 1-0 over the PSG to be crowned champion by winning all the matches he played in the competition.

His title in the final of the last edition of the maximum continental competition gave the Bayern Munich the second triplet (League-Cup-Champions) in its successful history, after 2013. The coach of that feat was also German and his name is Jupp heynckes, a legend of the Bavarian team. However, the five Flick titles in 2020 have not been worth it to get the The Best award FIFA for best coach of the year.
