Finland debuts and surprises Denmark after Eriksen scare

Finland debuted in their first final phase of a major tournament defeating Denmark in a match marked by shock by what happened to Christian Eriksen, who collapsed in the 43rd minute and, after receiving a heart massage, was stabilized and transferred to a hospital, where he evolved favorably. Joel Pohjanpalo scored the goal that gave the Finns the victory over the 1992 European champion (0-1).

It was a first half in which Denmark attacked and attacked, but with little inspiration, and Finland knew how to defend themselves very well. In addition Lukas Hradecky, goalkeeper of the Finns, was brilliant, as in the great save that he carried out in a shot from Jonas Wind.

One of the most active Danish players, and who sought the goal in several shots, was the Barcelona player Martin Braithwaite. But neither he nor Eriksen nor any of his teammates managed to beat Hradecky.

Then came the 43rd minute, when Eriksen collapsed losing consciousness and fear took over the stadium. After being treated by the doctors, the Inter media was able to be stabilized and transferred to a hospital. Knowing that their teammate was out of danger, the players decided that, after a 90-minute suspension, the match would resume.

Hradecky for a penalty to Poulsen

And in the 59th minute Joel Pohjanpalo, Union Berlin forward, became Finland's hero, scoring with a header after taking advantage of a ball sent by Jere Uronen. Pierre-Emi on le Höjbjerg could change the course of the match, but Hradecky saved him the penalty that the referee had pointed out to Paulus Arajuuri on Yussuf Poulsen.

Denmark could not change the course of the match. Poulsen had it 1-1 in his boots in the 86th minute, but the Leipzig striker was unable to seize the opportunity. The discipline and order of the debutant Finland had its prize: it gave the surprise by defeating the European champion in 1992.
