The International Swimming Federation was against the suspension imposed by the European Confederation (LEN) on the Federations of Portugal and Croatia on Monday and left it without effect as unfair.
The LEN decided to punish these two organizations with one year without being able to compete after their respective presidents, Antonio Silva and Josip Vardovic, signed a letter requesting the resignation of the continental swimming leadership and using the LEN logo.
In this sense, FINA issued a statement in which it stressed that it was “particularly concerned” about these exclusions and that it had voted “not to recognize the actions taken by the LEN” because it considered that “they did not follow due process, they were clearly politically motivated. and driven by self-interest, and they go against the spirit of the new FINA leadership that embraces inclusion, equality, integrity and democracy. “
For this reason, he made it clear that the Portuguese and Croatian federations “will retain all membership rights within the LEN”, including the right to attend “with the right to vote” to the next congresses of the governing body of world swimming. “The FINA asks the LEN to apply a fair process and due to all its actions now and in the future,” he said.
