Fight between sides in the boycott of Macarena Olona in Granada: booed to the cry of “fascists out”

Hundreds of people have protested this Thursday afternoon against the presence of the former Vox deputy and former party candidate for the Presidency of the Andalusian Government Macarena Olona, in the Paraninfo of the Faculty of Law of Granada, in the center of the capital of Granada, where he has managed to access to give a conference despite a ‘escrache’ in which moments of tension and skirmishes have been experienced between supporters and detractors of the State attorney.

On the occasion of her conference with the title ‘The defense of rights and freedoms through the Constitutional Court: the unconstitutionality of states of alarm’, organized by the Forum for Civil Concord, the State lawyer has arrived, under police custody , at 8:00 p.m. with the firm intention of entering the Paraninfo de Derecho, as they have commented to Europa Press sources from their environment, despite the human cordon that around two dozen concentrates had made to prevent it.

On two occasions the moments of tension that have been experienced have forced the intervention of agents of the National Police who guarded the access to the Plaza de Derecho in the presence of up to a thousand people in the area between supporters and detractors, who have chanted chants like ‘fascism out of the university’ or ‘they won’t pass’.

Before the arrival of the former Vox spokesperson in the Andalusian Parliament, and with other slogans chanted by the supporters of student unions and convening leftist organizations, such as ‘Olona get out of the university’, her supporters have responded with shouts of ‘ no to fascism’ and ‘no to communism’ at the gates of the Auditorium, within Law.

In this context, the leader of Ciudadanos, Inés Arrimadas, has condemned the violence, supporting Macarena Olona because, as she has defended, the university “must be a space for dialogue, debate and respect”. “It is intolerable that there are those who believe they have the right to decide who can speak at a university and who cannot,” she wrote on Twitter.

It so happens that, this past Wednesday afternoon, the Student Union Union (USE) sent a statement announcing mobilizations before the announcement of this conference and “the rise of publications inciting hatred.”

“We make use of our fundamental right to meet and demonstrate against what this lady represents: the political organization of reactionary and deeply discriminatory ideas such as racism, LGTBIphobia, machismo, denialism and the vindication of a dictatorship that has caused millions of deaths. without justice or any reparation,” they maintained from the USE.

“The university as a center of knowledge and knowledge must cease its attitude of behaving like a company when it comes to giving up its spaces,” they added while rejecting “any type of publication or dissemination” that would imply that this Thursday would take place a “confrontation between radicals”.

They asked that “extreme right-wing ideology be completely excluded from the University, which has always been and should be an example of humanism and non-discrimination”, in a statement with, among other signatories, the Granada organizations of the Andalusian Workers’ Union, the CGT and the CNT, Ustea, Interprofessional Assembly, and the Coordinator of the Marches of Dignity, as well as the Revolutionary Anticapitalist Left, the United Left or the Andalusian Nation.

On the other hand, the leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, has avoided this Thursday morning delving into the situation of Macarena Olona after her announcement of leaving politics last July and has stressed that she no longer belongs to the party and therefore “she is free to make her life and defend what she wants”.
