The International Football Federation (FIFA), through its Disciplinary Commission, has suspended this Saturday “provisionally” the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, “from all activities related to football national and international level”.
“The president of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, Jorge Ivan Palacio (Colombia), using the powers granted by article 51 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (CDF), has agreed today to provisionally suspend Mr. Luis Rubiales of all activities related to football at a national and international level”, the highest football organization in the world indicated in a press release.
This suspension will be effective from this same Saturday and “extends for an initial period of 90 days”, as specified in the note, “as long as the disciplinary procedure is processed” that said Disciplinary Commission opened on August 24 against Rubiales as a result of his behavior after the final of the women’s World Cup.
“In order to preserve the fundamental rights” of the national team player Jennifer Hermoso and also “good order” regarding the disciplinary procedure in progress, the president of the Disciplinary Commission has issued two additional directives (article 7 CDF) through which orders Rubiales “to refrain, through himself or third parties, from contacting or attempting to contact the player.”
Nor with “his close environment”, said the note about the sanction of Rubiales, who is also vice president of UEFA. “Likewise, the RFEF and its officers or employees, directly or through third parties, are ordered to refrain from contacting” Jenni Hermoso or her close environment, as the press text has insisted.
FIFA has indicated that “it will not offer any further information on this disciplinary procedure until a final decision is made on it” and has also reiterated “its absolute commitment to respecting the integrity of all people and therefore condemns the greater vigor all behavior to the contrary”.
