FIFA gives the OK to Laporte with Spain

Luis Enrique will be able to count on Aymeric Laporte for the Eurocup. The documentation of the FIFA authorizing its convocation by another federation different from the French one And the highest organ of world football has sent the communication this morning to the Ciudad del Fútbol de las Rozas that all Laporte papers are in order to be selected with Spain. Therefore, Laporte will enter the call by Luis Enrique for the Eurocup that will be public next Friday May 21th.

Aymeric Laporte, central defender of Manchester City born in Agen (France) on May 27, 1994, received this week Spanish nationality by the Council of Ministers. After the change in regulations due to the Munir Case, if Laporte, born in France, obtained a Spanish passport, Luis Enrique could summon him. As he was a footballer liked by the coach, Luis Rubiales, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, led the efforts with the Government to give Laporte nationality.

In Lopetegui's stage as coach, the Federation already monitored Laporte. When Munir was authorized to play for Morocco, José Molina, sports director of the RFEF asked Luis Rubiales to expedite the procedures to be able to count on Laporte. The Federation has had the total collaboration of José Manuel Franco, Secretary of State for Sports in his capacity as President of the Superior Sports Council after the departure of Irene Lozano.

The Council of Ministers approved last Tuesday the nationalization of Aymeric Laporte as Spanish and its decision was published on Wednesday in the Official State Gazette. “Royal Decree 333/2021, of May 11, by which Spanish nationality is granted by letter of nature to Mr. Aymeric Jean Louis Gerard Alphonse Laporte. At the proposal of the Minister of Justice in attention to the exceptional circumstances that concur with Mr. Aymeric Jean Louis Gerard Alphonse Laporte, and after deliberation by the Council of Ministers at its meeting on May 11, 2021, I have come to grant Spanish nationality by letter of nature to Don Aymeric Jean Louis Gerard Alphonse Laporte, with a civil neighborhood of the Basque Country. This concession will produce effects with the requirements, conditions and deadlines set forth in the Civil Code “, said the text of the BOE.

There is great expectation with Luis Enrique's list. The selector can carry up to 26 players, because the usual 23 have been expanded on the occasion of the pandemic. Among the usual centrals of the last calls are Eric García, Sergio Ramos, Iñigo Martínez, Diego Llorente and Pau Torres. And they are now joined by City center Aymeric Laporte. Who will be left out? We will find out next week.
