The International Football Federation (FIFA) confirmed this Wednesday its disqualification imposed for a period of three years on Luis Rubiales, former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), from carrying out any football activity, as a result of his behavior during the final. from the last Women's World Cup.
“He is prohibited from participating in any football-related activity for a period of three years for having behaved contrary to the principles enshrined in article 13 of the Disciplinary Code,” FIFA itself reported in a press release.
The Colombian Jorge Iván Palacio, the Ghanaian Anin Yeboah and the Austrian Thomas Hollerer were the members of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee who confirmed this decision to sanction Rubiales, already adopted on October 30 and which had been appealed in court by the own former president of the RFEF.
FIFA acted in this way after the events that occurred during the World Cup final held on August 20 in Sydney (Australia), where Rubiales made obscene gestures in the stands and then kissed soccer player Jenni Hermoso on the lips, presumably without the consent of she.
The former RFEF president was already suspended by FIFA on August 26 on a provisional basis, for an initial period of 90 days, and later the disqualification for three years was announced; all of this, by virtue of the provisions of article 13 of the Disciplinary Code of the highest international football organization.
In any case, this new decision by FIFA can be challenged before its Appeals Committee. “Any party wishing to appeal must announce their intention to do so in writing through the FIFA Legal Portal within three days of notification of the reasons for the decision,” the press release finally stated.
