Fernando Carpena highlights the silver of María de Valdés: “She is capable and brave”

MADRID, 22 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation (RFEN), Fernando Carpena, took stock of the European Swimming Championships held in Rome on Monday, highlighting the “great joy” that was the silver medal in 5 km of open water for the Spanish María de Valdés, who is “trained, well prepared and brave”

“We have experienced the great joy of the María de Valdés medal, who already pointed out in Budapest that she wants to take on the world. She is trained, she is brave and she is well prepared,” said the president about the Spanish swimmer in statements to the media of the RFEN collected by Europa Press.

Thus, Carpena showed her “gratitude for the work that the swimmer is doing in A Coruña” with her coach Jesús de la Fuente. “I hope that with our collaboration it will continue to grow. It will be a great asset for both Fukuoka and the Games,” she wished.

“The most newsworthy thing as a whole has been the difficulties that the weather has caused with the suspension and delay of the competition, vicissitudes of the open waters, especially if they are disputed in the sea. Guillem Pujol has given everything and holding on at the head in the two races. Growth and enormous future of the young Carlos Garach and Ángela Martínez, in addition to the relay, with a great first post from María. Very well together and a dedicated staff with a great team atmosphere, added on the rest of the competition.

The president of the RFEN also sees the Spanish performance “with optimism”, “a mix of veterans, such as Velázquez and Arévalo, with young people such as Max Liñán, without forgetting Adrián Abadía and Carlos Camacho”, in the jumps of the European Championship. “As a general vision of this team, we have to look at the future with great optimism and also with realism. But we have done innovative things, such as the debut in the Team Event or the mixed synchronized ones”, he analyzed.

“The conclusion cannot be more than satisfactory. We need the ‘veterans’ to continue progressing and supporting the younger ones. Magnificent disposition is observed in this small but great family of jumps”, he explained.

Finally, regarding the discipline of High Diving, the leader highlighted the debut of three jumpers. “Alberto Dévora has done it with great dignity in a discipline that is very, very special due to the difficulties that exist in the preparation and, above all, due to the risk of his work at great heights. As for the veterans, Celia Fernández did not He has done his best competition, but the mere fact of preparing oppositions, and it cannot serve as an excuse, has caused that his concentration and preparation have not been the best”, he affirmed.

“But he has fought with tremendous dignity. And Carlos Gimeno, who has had a great competition and his exceptional last jump has taken him to the top of the table. Thanks to coach Quique Martínez, who has collaborated with them to represent Spain more than with dignity”, settled.
