Fernando Alonso: “We won’t know until after Australia where the general performance is”

MADRID, 15 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish driver Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) assures that they have changed their entire “focus” for this weekend’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, which is held on a “completely different” track from that of Sakhir where they achieved third place, and he opined that it will not be until after the Australian Grand Prix when they will know “better where the general performance is” of the ‘AMR23’.

“The car felt very good in Bahrain and we enjoyed our weekend achieving our first podium of the season, but now we have shifted all our focus to this weekend and Jeddah,” Alonso admits in statements provided by his team.

The Asturian is clear that the Saudi track “will be a very different challenge” from Sakhir “since it is a completely different circuit” and also “two weeks” had passed before in which he opened the campaign. “We are all familiar with the track and the conditions, so the learning curve from this Friday will be much steeper,” he warned.

“Realistically, I don’t think it will be until after Australia that we know better where the overall performance is, as by then we will have had three very different race weekends at varied circuits in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Melbourne,” he remarked.

For this reason, the two-time world champion calls for calm despite the great start to the season. “We have our feet on the ground and hard work is needed to maintain this start and try to get another good result this weekend,” he said.
