Fernando Alonso: “We know the ‘AMR23’ better, but we have to maintain the momentum of development”

MADRID, 26 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish driver Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) celebrates the return of the Formula 1 World Championship this weekend after a long break of three weeks with an Azerbaijan Grand Prix that is “a unique challenge” due to the conditions of the track and to which they arrive getting to know his car “better”.

“It’s good to be back after a few weeks away from racing. I have recharged my batteries after a start to the season with a lot of adrenaline and now I’m looking forward to Baku,” Alonso stressed in statements provided this Wednesday by his team.

The Spaniard, who has been on the podium in the three previous Grand Prix, warns of the dangers of the track. “It presents us drivers with a unique challenge as we are faced with many low speed urban sections and then extremely high speed straights which create many opportunities for risk and reward,” he detailed.

In addition, the man from Oviedo is “excited” about the return this weekend of the Sprint format, which has also been renewed by the World Cup organizers. “We’ve seen some fun racing in the past and I’m sure it won’t be any different, especially now with two qualifying sessions and two races,” he stressed.

“After three races we know our car better, but we have to pick it up where we left off in Australia and keep up the momentum in its development in the next few races,” said the two-time F-1 world champion.

For his part, his partner at Aston Martin, Lance Stroll, is also looking forward to returning to action despite the “good thing to have had a short break” and remembers that Baku “keeps great memories” on a personal level because it was where he went up to the podium for the first time in 2017.

“We approach this weekend with the hope of continuing our form from the beginning of the season. In general, Baku is a wild ride, a really fun track,” added the Canadian, who sees the new format as “great for the fans.” the sprint race.

“We need to start at full speed as there will be little time to prepare for qualifying and the races, but the team has done a fantastic job this year so I know we are up for the challenge,” said Stroll.
