Fernando Alonso achieves his 100th podium in Jeddah

The Aston Martin man does not get off the podium, also third in the second round of the World Cup behind Pérez and Verstappen

Carlos Sainz finished sixth, with Ferrari behind Mercedes

MADRID, 19 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) finished third this Sunday in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, second round of the World Cup, behind the Red Bulls of Sergio Pérez and Max Verstappen, while Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) was sixth .

Alonso keeps his enthusiasm intact with the new Aston Martin project by getting on the podium as he did two weeks ago in Bahrain but on a very different track and at extreme speed. The double world champion, who was starting second, fought as far as he could and, after a safety car, with 30 laps to go, he held the 100th podium of his career, with suspense due to the Spaniard’s starting penalty.

Ahead, Sergio Pérez was intractable, even for a Verstappen who came from fifteenth position but had to settle for being second, in another Red Bull double. George Russell and Lewis Hamilton were fourth and fifth, ahead of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, in a race unchanged from general pitting that left the safety car.
