Felipe VI will meet (separately) with Nadal and Alcaraz in Madrid

The King presides over two sporting events with two Spanish tennis legends: Rafa Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz. The head of state will meet next week with the tennis players (separately) in two different events on two consecutive days.

The Head of State will present Nadal with the Camino Real Award at a ceremony that will take place on Tuesday 20th in the Auditorium of the University of Alcalá de Henares. The tennis player from Manacor, who this fall will debut as a father together with his wife, Xisca Perelló, is the history of Spanish sport with his legendary 22 Grand Slams.

The Spaniard, who won his 14th Roland Garros last June, just a few hours ago sent a message of admiration to his natural rival, Federer, for his withdrawal from the courts: “It has been a pleasure, an honor and a privilege to share all these years with you, living incredible moments on and off the pitch.”

A day later, on Wednesday 21, Felipe VI will receive Carlos Alcaraz at the Palacio de la Zarzuela. Along with the Murcian will also be his fellow winners in the different categories of the US Open 2022: Madrid’s Martín Landaluce, who at 16 years old won the junior category; and Martín de la Puente from Vigo, who at 23 was proclaimed wheelchair doubles champion together with Frenchman Nicolas Peifer.

With his triumph in the USA, Alcaraz, 19, has become the youngest number 1 in history with his victory against Ruud in the final of the US Open. “This is something I’ve dreamed of since I was a kid, to be number one in the world and a ‘Grand Slam’ champion,” he revealed after his victory.
