PALMA, 5 Aug. (from the special envoy of EUROPA PRESS, Andrea García Acuña) –

This Saturday, King Felipe VI presided over the delivery of the trophies to the winners of the different classes of the 41st edition of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE sailing, which took place this week in the bay of Palma and concluded with the ‘Aifos’, the boat that the monarch has skippered, in second place in the Majorica ORC1 class.

The Ses Voltes venue, at the foot of Palma’s cathedral, has hosted the ceremony in which the great protagonists of the regatta have received their prize after six days of intense struggle on the Mallorcan regatta course.

Among the attending authorities were the president of the Balearic Government, Marga Prohens; the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez; or the president of the Real Club Náutico de Palma (RCNP), Emerico Fuster, among others.

King Felipe delivered the winning trophies to the winners of each class; the Majorica trophies, to the second classified; and the Real Club Náutico de Palma trophies, to the third classified. The representatives of each of the teams went up to the podium to collect the gimped from the monarch.

In addition, the ‘Scugnizza’ also collected the MAPFRE trophy as absolute champion of the Handicap division, which includes the classes that compete in compensated time; and the ‘Patakín’ was awarded as absolute winner of the one-design classes, which navigate in real time.

The 41st edition of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE is organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma and the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation (RFEV), with the sponsorship of MAPFRE and the institutional collaboration of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Palma City Council, the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands and the Balearic Sailing Federation.
