Felipe VI and Letizia, in Menorca: visit to ‘The Bloody Island’ and the historic Llabrés pharmacy

Isla del Rey, in the port of Mahón. Felipe VI and Letizia have landed this Thursday, January 12, in this colorful protected natural space that houses a military hospital. In times of British rule, the area was known as The Bloody Island. Menorca is a very special visit for the Kings. this very morning Casa del Rey confirmed that Their Majesties are going to attend the funeral in memory of Constantine of Greecewhich will take place on Monday, January 16 at the Cathedral of Athens.

The head of state and his wife have toured this island that houses the old hospital built in the 18th century and also the remains of the early Christian basilica, dating from the 6th century.

In Ciutadella, this afternoon, Don Felipe and Doña Letizia are going to officially inaugurate the Llabrés pharmacy, headquarters of the Hesperia Foundation. A building that is a symbol of modernist architecture and historical heritage since 2009. The then princes of Asturias inherited this property at the express will of the Menorcan businessman Juan Ignacio Balada Llabrés. Now the old pharmacy, rehabilitated, is the headquarters of the foundation for people with disabilities.
