Feliciano says goodbye to Geneva against German Koepfer

Feliciano lopez said goodbye to the ATP 250 in Geneva on Wednesday, the prelude to Roland Garros, with a defeat in three sets against Dominc Koepfer. The 39-year-old from Toledo, 61st in the ranking, managed to scratch a set against 59th, an efficient player on clay that dropped him from the Swiss tournament in two hours and 19 minutes with a 7-5, 6-7 (1) and 6 -3.

It was only the twelfth game this season for López, who increasingly selects his appearances by age and by combining his activities on the court with those he performs outside of it, among others the management of the Mutua Madrid Open. Although he had not played since he fell in the first round of Godó, he managed to stand up in a first set that Koepfer opted with a break in the eleventh game.

In the second sleeve he pulled his serve, a sure value, to force the tie-break by conceding only one break ball on the way (he let another one escape) and, already in the tiebreaker, he imposed his draw with a resounding 7-1 that brought the crash to the final set. Koepfer, twelve years younger, arrived more whole at the moment of truth. His break in the fourth game was answered immediately after by Feliciano, who surrendered his serve again in the next game and could no longer react. The German will face the Norwegian Ruud in the quarterfinals. For his part, Pablo Andújar, who defeated Federer on Tuesday in his return to clay, will face Dominic Stricker in the quarterfinals, another Swiss in whom many see Roger's heir. For now he is the 419 in the world, but this Wednesday he fell to a bone like the Hungarian Fucsovics with a 7-5 and 6-4 in a game that was interrupted for a long time by the rain.
