Feijóo says that his six-year-old son “hits him well” and talks about his friendship with Julio Iglesias: “I have asked him for a meme for the campaign”

The leader of the PP and main rival of Pedro Sanchez in the race for Moncloa has sat this Wednesday in the anthill. Feijóo has reviewed the main points of his electoral program for the 23-J elections (euthanasia, abortion, Vox, economy…) but he has also wanted to show his most sympathetic and personal side: “What amuses me? Well, I have had a son at 55, everything I do with him.”

The former president of the Xunta de Galicia began an intense love story in 2009 with Eva Cardenas, then Director of Zara Home. Shortly after, they had their first child, Alberto: “He likes to fight and he’s good at it. He gets on top of me and hurts me. I pinch him to make him leave me because it hurts”, he said between laughs. “He only sees the Pokémon and his drawings, nothing on TV, but today he was going to see the ants.”

At 61 years old, Feijóo drools with his little one: “He is six years old. On his birthday I picked him up at school. They let me in and another child recognized me: ‘He is the president,’ he said. And my son stood in front of him and replied: ‘He’s not the president, he’s my father’.

Because of him, it was difficult for him to leave his quiet life in Galicia and settle in Madrid: “I did not like the idea of coming to Madrid and changing my whole life. I said no, I had a commitment to Galicia, but in February 22 we had a problem serious and I understood that it was my obligation to come. I have tried to unite the Galicians all these years, I have tried to unite the members of my party and now, if they let me, I will unite all the Spaniards”. And he humorously added: “Besides, Moncloa is on the La Coruña highway, it’s not a bad place for a Galician to live.”

His friendship with Julio Iglesias

Feijóo has also faced an interview with Trancas y Barrancas, to whom he has told that “Rajoy is one of the nicest people I know” and that what he likes most about Moncloa “are his paintings”.

But the most striking thing has been his anecdotes with Julio Iglesias, although their friendship is no secret: “I spoke to him three or four days ago. He closely follows everything that happens in Spain, reads many newspapers, editorials and gives me his opinions. He is obsessed with territorial unity and with water, he reminds me all the time: ‘Something has to be done about the water problem.’ And he has added: “I asked him to make me a meme ‘You’re going to win and Spain knows it’, but he hasn’t done it to me. I’ve ever sent him memes, but he doesn’t answer them.”
