Roger Federer continues the rehabilitation work after the two knee operations to which he has undergone and that will keep him out of the competition until the year 2021.
In statements collected by the Swiss media RSI Federer showed his satisfaction about the new measures for the ATP ranking and confirmed that he will be ready to compete again in 2021. “The fact that the ranking has been frozen is an advantage for me, but it is not a big change either. It allows me not to have too much pressure when I play again and to be able to better prepare specific events such as Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympics. I'm taking it easy, I'm not back on track yet but I will be ready for next January 1. “
In an interview with the German newspaper Zeit Federer he also spoke about the rumors about his withdrawal. He acknowledged that he has tried that option but also stated that he still wants to continue enjoying tennis. “The moment of my retirement is closer and I know that I will miss the circuit when I retire. Before I was only concerned about health but now I will miss playing in a full stadium. I must be patient and keep working. It would have been easy to retire in this context, but I want to continue enjoying tennis. “
Federer also reviewed how he met Rafa Nadal and how he has forged one of the great friends of the ATP circuit. “When I met Nadal I was surprised because he was my shy off track but when he competed he was very aggressive. We have had a lot of rivalry between us and sometimes it has not been easy. We have had great duels, but we respect each other. We know that we are references for many people and that we represent our sport. Our families get along very well and we congratulate ourselves when one of us wins. “
