Federer falls one win away from breaking Nadal's record

Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal seem predestined to equalize in tennis history. Both share the men's record for Grand Slam titles, at 20, and now too share the one with the most victories in the same Grand SlamBut the Swiss could have surpassed the Spaniard if he had beaten Hurkacz in the Wimbledon quarterfinals on Wednesday. Federer would have added 106 in the British tournament, above the 105 that Nadal has achieved so far.

If the Helvetian does not play at Wimbledon again, he will be unable to beat the Balearic Islands in that statistic, and it is very likely that this will increase its mark in the French major next year. Federer has 102 victories at the Australian Open, although it is unknown whether or not he will participate in that event in 2022. It would be his other chance to break this new historical tie.

Federer still has many unique records left in tennis, achievements that in some cases may remain for a few more years, although he is increasingly close to many of them, especially Novak Djokovic.
