Federer confesses to Nishikori that his dream is to go to the Tokyo Games

Roger Federer continues in the final stretch of his recovery after the operation he underwent on his right knee last February and that has prevented him from competing for much of the 2020 season (he only played at the Australian Open, where he lost in the semifinals against Djokovic).

At 39, Federer is looking forward to next season, for which he already has a main goal that he confessed to the Japanese tennis player Kei Nishikori during a video chat. “My main plan is to be in Japan for the Olympics. You know, that for me is the most important thing. Thinking selfishly It has not been bad for me that they have been postponed to next year after the problems I have had. “

The Swiss admitted that the cancellation of Wimbledon and the postponement of the Games were a severe blow to him despite his injury. “It was a shock to all of us that Wimbledon announced that it would not be held because of the pandemic, and shortly thereafter the Tokyo Olympics were postponed.”

Federer once again expressed his desire to be present at the Tokyo Games to seek the Olympic gold, a medal that he already has in the doubles category (he won it together with Wawrinka in Beijing 2008), but still resists him in the individual category. (It was silver in 2012 and could not attend the Rio Games due to injury). “I hope the Olympics can be held in Tokyo next year, it is one of my big goals. I really hope to be in Tokyo for it.”
