FC Barcelona announced this Thursday that it has started work on the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium to adapt the venue, where it will have to play during the 2023-2024 season due to the remodeling works on the Spotify Camp Nou, to the needs of the club and to the requirements of LaLiga and the international competitions in which it participates.
According to the agreement made official by the Blaugrana team and the Barcelona City Council last June, Barça will be able to use the venue from August 2023 to May 2024, and will also be able to use it for specific needs or training sessions for the women’s team.
Regarding the works, the club indicated that it has started with the work on the pitch, changing the drainage, irrigation and water treatment system, and that it is also adapting to the necessary dimensions established. Next, the general conditioning work of the venue will begin in relation to the changing rooms, the press stands and the ‘hospitality’ areas, as well as the installation of competition systems and television broadcasting.
FC Barcelona recalled that the transfer of use agreed with the City Council includes everything from the pitch and the stands to other auxiliary spaces such as the press stands, changing rooms and indoor parking areas, among others.
In the same way, to guarantee good public access to the Olympic Stadium, the City Council and FC Barcelona have worked on a plan that reinforces public transport and sustainable mobility, and have dimensioned extraordinary maintenance and security services to guarantee the least possible impact on the mountain. In this sense, this Thursday, the Government Commission of the Barcelona City Council has approved the agreement that provides for these actions.
In this way, the Funicular services will be reinforced and bus shuttles will be enabled from the main public transport accesses. If necessary for the time of the game, it is also planned to extend the hours of the Metro service.
On the other hand, to promote sustainable mobility in the mountains, a bike lane will also be set up between Plaza España and Miramar and three new Bicing stations, and the lighting of the main walking routes will also be improved during match hours. that need it and the pedestrian paths between public transport and the stadium will be stabilized.
The City Council, the Barcelona Municipal Services company B:SM) and FC Barcelona have worked so that the club’s activity is compatible with the rest of the cultural, sporting and civic uses of the Olympic Ring and the rest of the facilities on the mountain Montjuïc. In all cases, every effort will be made not to coincide with any other event scheduled at the Palau Sant Jordi or the Olympic Esplanade, the club pointed out.
