Falcons Have Not Decided To Week 16 Starter QB

The Falcons gave Desmond Ridder the starting job back after their bye week so that they wouldn’t have to worry about their quarterback for the rest of the 2014 season. Since they lost yesterday, though, that might not be the case.

Ridder was put on the bench in favor of Taylor Heinicke because he was having trouble making the Year 2 jump that many young passes do.

Atlanta’s staff has faith in the first one, though, and he was returned as the No. 1 for Week 12 and beyond.

In Sunday’s loss against the Panthers, Ridder didn’t play very well, and Carolina scored the game-winning field goal after an interception in the red zone late in the game.

That kept up a bad pattern for Ridder when it comes to turnovers. He has thrown a minimum of one interception within nine games so far this season and all four of his most recent games.

The 2022 third-round pick has also lost the ball 11 times, which is another reason why Atlanta should look for a replacement this summer.

As of right now, the head coach Arthur Smith stated on Monday that the situation will be looked at again.

When asked whether third-stringer Logan Woodside was in the running to start in Week 16, Smith said no, and he also confirmed that an outside addition is also not in the running.

So, just like earlier this year, the choice will come down to Ridder and Heinicke as Atlanta tries to stay in the running for an NFC playoff spot.

The second player hasn’t put up very good numbers on the field in his first season with the Falcons.

Heinicke’s time as a starter was cut short by a hamstring injury, but he is now fit. The starter for the Commanders in the past has had more time than Ridder, and the squad might choose to make him the starter in the last few games to cut down on mistakes while they try to win the NFC South title.

They are 6-8 and one game behind the Buccaneers and the Saints. There is a chance that the Falcons could make the playoffs, but their offense needs to get better. They are additionally in the running for a wild-card place.

Heinicke is signed until 2024 because he signed a deal with a lot of incentives during the summer. Ridder’s rookie deal, on the other hand, lasts one more year.

Atlanta’s plans for the near future will be interesting to watch because they have contracts with both quarterbacks that go beyond this season.

Desmond Ridder or Taylor Heinicke are the two candidates for the job. Both have had chances to start during the season.

Arthur Smith, the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, hasn’t decided who will start at position for the team’s game against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 16 or for the rest of the season.
