Ex-New England Patriots leader Bill Belichick writes a letter to say goodbye.
Bill Belichick, the former coach of the New England Patriots, thanked fans for their support in an entire page of advertising in Sunday’s Boston Globe. He was usually very quiet during his time in charge, which included six Super Bowl wins.
The Patriots had only made the playoffs once because Tom Brady left to join the Buccaneers in Tampa before Belichick took over in January.
There aren’t many passionate sports fans in America like the ones in New England. For 24 years, I was lucky enough to feel your passion or power, Belichick’s letter said.
“The Patriots are the one NFL team that plays in SIX states, but Patriots Nation doesn’t care about borders.”
“The weather didn’t bother you; you went to training camp practices that were unbearably hot and played on Foxborough’s coldest, wettest, snowiest, as well as windiest days.”
Your thoughtful letters gave me support, feedback, and ideas for creative games to play. You watched upon TV, the internet, and from your seats in the stadium.
“You went from one coast to another and around the world.” You were often the last fans standing when you passed by stadiums of the other team. You really liked it! You helped our team by giving your time, resources, and energy. Thanks for that!…
“Six times, you brought millions of people to Boston for parades that were considered a real show of love and gratitude from both sides.” I will always remember the pictures from those days.
The ad thanks Patriots fans for their loyalty over Belichick’s 24 years as coach, saying, “You didn’t let bad weather stop you; you showed up to practice in the hottest temperatures and endured Foxborough’s coldest, wettest, snowiest, or windiest days.”
It was funny when Belichick made fun of his famously quiet personality in the ad. He said, “You may have even enjoyed my sense of style and appearances in the media, or perhaps you simply tolerated them.”
He thanked the fans at the end of the letter by saying, “I loved coaching here, and together we had some exciting moments.” In The Boston Globe, Belichick bought a full-page ad that said, “To Patriots lovers everywhere.”
Belichick, who is 71 years old, has won 266 regular-season games and 30 playoff games during his time with the Patriots.
This is by far the most wins in the team’s history. With 52 wins in the regular season, Mike Holovak (1961–68) is second only to Raymond Berry (1984–89) in terms of wins in the playoffs.
Belichick won six Super Bowls with the Patriots, which is more than any other head coach in NFL history. His 333 wins, including playoff games, are second only to Don Shula’s 347 wins for the most in a single season.
Belichick has said he wants to be a coach again, and earlier this year he interviewed in the Atlanta Falcons. Raheem Morris was hired by the Falcons for the job.
Bill Belichick is starting a new part of his life. Previously, he was the head coach of the New England Patriots for 24 years. He doesn’t have a new teaching job lined up for the upcoming 2024 NFL season.
For the first time in 25 years, no one knows what will happen with Belichick. But before he starts living a life without a job, he wanted to thank the fans for being there for him and the squad through good times and bad.
It took up a whole page of the Boston Globe, but Belichick used it to thank Patriots fans. The message was short and to the point, and it showed respect and warmth. In other words, this is typical Belichick.
Even though he had a few interviews after leaving the Patriots, Belichick wasn’t able to find a new job. It was Raheem Morris of the Los Angeles Rams who was hired as the new head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, even though they had conducted two interviews with Bill Belichick.
