Everton lose and leave Liverpool the only leader (2-1)

Carlo Ancelotti's Everton, with many casualties, lost this Sunday against Newcastle at Saint James' Park (2-1) and could not regain the leadership of the Premier, which it occupied until this day thanks to the favorable goal difference compared to the Liverpool. Now his citizen rival is first alone, with 3 points more than Everton, Southampton and Wolves. After a double by Callum Wilson, Dominic Calvert-Lewin's goal came in discount, but Ancelotti's men could not seal their reaction.

The ‘Toffees’ had many casualties for this game, starting with those of James Rodríguez, Richarlison, former Barça player Lucas Digne or Seamus Coleman. In addition, Ancelotti left his starting goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, on the bench and lined up Robin Olsen in his place. The Everton and England goalkeeper revealed to have received death threats as a result of the tackle that seriously injured Virgil van Dijk in the derby (2-2).

Newcastle beat Everton thanks to a brace from Callum Wilson. The first goal was from a penalty committed by former Barcelona player André Gomes and transformed by Wilson in the 56th minute. The second came after a pass from Fraser and the former Barcelona player Yerry Mina could not cut it, but touched the ball lightly and Wilson surpassed him to sentence the match in the 85th minute, despite the fact that in the end Calvert-Lewin put emotion on him with his both in '92.

Calvert-Lewin put emotion with his goal, but the reaction of Everton was not consummated

Olsen made good interventions, including the best chance of the entire first half, which was from Newcastle and specifically from Allan Saint Maximine, whose shot thwarted the great save by the Everton goalkeeper before Pickford's eyes. Saint Maximin, with a blow, had to be later substituted.

Everton, without several of its referents, starting with James, was not the one from this start of the season, which occupied the leadership of the Premier, but in addition to its lesser offensive success, it found a magnificent Newcastle defense. Calvert-Lewin was isolated in some sections.

But the ‘Toffees’ did not want to give up and, after a cross by Alex Iwobi, Calvert-Lewin scored his eighth goal in the current Premier, thus sharing the ‘top scorer’ position with Son Heung-min (Tottenham). Everton pressed and even Olsen went up to finish in the last seconds in search of that 2-2 that did not arrive. It was Everton's second defeat in the present English championship and it is difficult for them not to be able to regain first place and to the benefit of Liverpool.
