Everton break 50-year-old record with James

James Rodríguez is the new sensation of the Premier League. The Colombian has had a dream landing in England and Carlo Ancelotti's project is beginning to be taken into account. With today's win against Brighton, in which James was on display again with two goals and one assist, the team is leader with twelve points out of twelve possible, but it is also that it has broken a record that had been established for more than 50 years.

From the 1969-1970 season, in which they managed to lift the Premier League trophy led by the midfield formed by Alan Ball, Colin Harvey and Howard Kendall and nicknamed “Holy Trinity”, Everton failed to win the first four league games. In fact, with the victory against Crystal Palace on the third day they managed to win the first three games for the first time since 1993-1994.

This is the Sixth time that Everton made such a start and in the previous five they were proclaimed champion in four (1890-1891, 1938-1939, 1962-1963, 1969-1970) and runner-up in one (1894-1895). At general levels MisterChip indicates that since the Premier League was created in 1992, only eight teams have achieved four victories in the first four games with a goal difference of 12 or higher. Newcastle 1994-1995 (sixth), Arsenal 2004-2005 (runner-up), Chelsea 2010-2011 (runner-up), Manchester City 2011-2012 (champion), Manchester United 2011-2012 (runner-up), Chelsea 2014-2015 (champion) and Liverpol 2019-2020 (champion).

With these data on the table, the Everton fans are very excited about their team and are beginning to wonder if perhaps this season they can aspire to the always competitive Champions League positions. Last season was very difficult and the multiple injuries sustained left the team in twelfth place. With a center of the field renovated with the signings of Allan, Doucouré and especially James Rodríguez, a coach such as Carlo Ancelotti and a Calvert-Lewin on a roll that today became the first Toffee player to score in the first four days, the Everton fans are ready to dream.
