Evenepoel: “I hope it was my bad day”

MADRID, 3 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) acknowledged that he had to suffer this Saturday in the Sierra de La Pandera (Jaén), losing a mattress in his leadership in the Vuelta a España, but he trusted that his “bad day” had passed .

“It wasn’t my best day. I didn’t have my best legs, I couldn’t respond when Roglic attacked. I’m still 1’50” overall, so there’s nothing to be scared of. I will try to recover as much as possible and survive tomorrow,” he said after crossing the finish line of a tough fourteenth stage.

The red jersey gritted its teeth before the attack of a Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) who cut almost a minute in the last three most critical kilometers of La Pandera. “I have some muscle soreness (after the crash in stage 12), but it should go away by tomorrow or after the rest day,” he confessed.

“Obviously being the second day after the crash is often the day you don’t feel well. But I won’t use that as an excuse. I haven’t had my best legs today. I hope this was my bad day in these three weeks,” he finished.
