Evenepoel hits the table and wins on the climb to Piornal to remain leader of La Vuelta

MADRID, 8 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) won this Thursday in the first category port of Alto de Piornal, where he concluded the mountain stage that started in Trujillo and traveled 192 kilometers, with the red jersey reaffirming his favoritism with a stage win and beating Enric Mas (Movistar Team) at the finish line.

Confusion and attacks and counterattacks reigned in the stage among the favorites in the general classification, with Enric Mas very active, threatening the leader during the last climb, although without being able to finish getting him out of the wheel. The fight between the two also slightly increased the advantages in the classification, where Evenepoel and Mas managed to significantly increase their difference.

The big loser was Carlos Rodríguez (INEOS Grenadiers), who suffered a hard fall at the beginning of the stage and, visibly bruised, struggled to ride with the favorites until almost the end, when he was left off the hook in the last attack by Enric Mas and He ended up losing fourth place overall, which is now held by Miguel Ángel López (Astana Qazaqstan), but he managed to save the day.
