Eva Carneiro: from exile from Mourinho to resuscitating Murray

Andy Murray has gone through a second youth at the Mutua Madrid Open. The British tennis player, number 1 in the world in 2016, Olympic gold medalist in London 2012 and Rio 2016 and winner of Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016, seems to be gradually leaving behind the problems he suffered in his hip and that prevented him from staying in the elite of tennis with Rafa Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, although last Thursday he could not face the Serbian in the round of 16 of the Madrid tournament due to being ill.

Much of the blame for this second youth lies with the Gibraltarian doctor Eva Carneiro, known in the sports world for being part of the Chelsea medical team and who made headlines in 2015 after the anger she received from the then Chelsea coach José Mourinho while he attended the then blue player Eden Hazard on the pitch during a Premier League match against Swansea and which led to his departure from the team.

The incident with Mourinho being forgotten, Carneiro has now been one of the main reasons for the resurgence of Andy Murray at the Mutua Madrid Open. According to the British newspaper The Telegraph, this collaboration began in 2018, when Group 77, which represents Murray, looked for experts who would try to extend his sports career and contacted Carneirowho was working on the search for the effect of collagen peptides on sports performance.

In this way, Murray, together with the nutritionist Glenn Kearney and the doctor Eva Carneiro, began a treatment with TRR, a supplement that combines marine collagen with turmeric and copper. The Telegraph also details that the use of this formula has helped Murray increase his speed when serving by 10 km/h compared to his serves in 2017 and that his average speed on the court has also increased from 11, 7 to 13.6 km/h.

Eva Carneiro herself revealed in The Telegraph how this collaboration with Murray has been. “He has fantastic knowledge, he is an athlete who is very interested in science and how it can help him. As medical professionals we discover things that we thought were impossible. But athletes like Andy Murray and Rafa Nadal are constantly breaking barriers. They are unique, very intelligent and educated people who are happy to receive medical advice to continue overcoming challenges.”

A formula that has helped Murray rediscover his best physique, something he hoped to demonstrate again against Novak Djokovic in the round of 16 of the Mutua Madrid Open before leaving due to illness. Despite this setback Andy Murray is back and it is thanks to Dr. Eva Carneiro.
