European Championship winners: which teams have won it and how many each team has

Euro 2020 has come to an end. The Italian team beat England on penalties thanks to Donnarumma's performance. The meeting has been very close and has been decided by details. Mancini's team has won the trophy after playing 6 of their 7 matches at Wembley and with the support of their fans.

The first edition of this tournament was played in France in 1960, and Russia (at that time, the Soviet Union) was proclaimed champion by beating Yugoslavia 2-1 in the final. Precisely, that is the only title that the Russian team has achieved in all history. In that edition the competition was called the European Cup of Nations, it was not until 1992 when it received the name of Eurocopa. In total, 15 editions have been disputed, and 10 countries can boast of having won it on some occasion.

Spain and Germany are the teams that have won the Eurocup the most times. Both won the trophy three times. La Roja also has the honor of being the only team that has been proclaimed European champion twice in a row: 2008 and 2012. This milestone was reached after 44 years of drought, since the first title was achieved by Spain in 1964. The German team, meanwhile, won the 1972, 1980 and 1996 editions.

After Spain and Germany are now Italy (1968 and 2021) and France, which has won the European Championship twice (1984 and 2000). The 'bleu' team had the opportunity to be placed in the leading group in the last edition, but lost against Portugal (0-1) in the final played in Paris. The other six European Champions have only one title each: Portugal (2016), Greece (2004), Denmark (1992), Netherlands (1988), Czech Republic (1976) and Russia (1960).
