MADRID, 14 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The former international player and now president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o, believes that Cameroon can become world champions and predicts an African final against Morocco in the Qatar event.
“Seeing Cameroon win would be a dream come true. For any player, the dream is always to win titles. As president of our federation, I would be very excited to see Cameroon win the World Cup,” he said.
Four-time African Player of the Year winner Eto’o hopes the ‘Indomitable Lions’ will prevail over continental rival Morocco in the Qatar 2022 final, to be held at the Lusail Stadium on 18 December, in their hypothetical ending.
A prediction made before the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy of Qatar 2022 that includes that the five African teams present in the World Cup () will advance from the group stage.
“Africa has always had a lot of potential to succeed in the World Cup, but we have not always given our best,” said Eto’o, Qatar Legacy ambassador.
However, he assured that the African teams have been acquiring “more and more experience”. “I think they are prepared not only to participate in a World Cup, but to win the most beautiful football competition,” he said.
According to the former striker, Cameroon would reach the final after beating Belgium in the quarterfinals and Senegal — current champion of the African Cup of Nations — in the semis. On the other hand, he sees Morocco beating Spain, Portugal and France to reach the final.
As for the host team, it promises a good role. “We have already seen the work Qatar has done in recent years and how the team has grown and matured. I think they will be a surprise as other teams will not be aware of their qualities,” he warned.
