MADRID, 24 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Ethiopian athlete Sinaresh Yirga has been crowned champion of the Zurich Rock’n’Roll Running Series Madrid marathon, in which she has set a new women’s record for the event, while her compatriot Abdela Gemeda has prevailed in the men’s category.
Up to four female participants exceeded the time of 2:26:24 that Shasho Insermu set in 2019 as the record for the Madrid event, and it was Yirga who took the honor of setting the new record by crossing the finish line in 2:24:37 . After her, her compatriots Mereset Abebayehu (2:25:18) and Kasu Bitew (2:26:18) finished, who completed the podium.
For his part, the Ethiopian Abdela Godana Gemeda revalidated his triumph from last year by stopping the clock in 2:08:44, ahead of the Ugandan Geofrey Kusuro (2:09:23) and the Ethiopian Zewudu Hailu Bekele (2:09 :27). In total, the first five participants managed to cross the finish line in less than 2 hours and 10 minutes, something that had never happened in Madrid.
As for the Spanish participation, the Galician Tariku Novales, after an ordeal of injuries, made his arrival in 2:22:07 to the applause of the public, and the Madrilenian Tamara Sanfabio repeated first national position, with 2:55:47 in goal after doing the same in 2021.
