MADRID, 27 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The return of forward Esther González, from Gotham FC of the American MLS, is the main novelty in the list of 23 called up by national coach Montse Tomé for the matches against Belgium and the Czech Republic, qualifiers for the Euro 2025 Championship in Switzerland.
The Asturian coach has relied practically on the same block as for the last ‘Final Four’ of the Nations League for these first two qualifying matches for the continental event against the Belgian team, on April 5 at the Den Dreef Stadium in the town of Louven, and the Czech, on 9 in El Plantío de Burgos.
The Andalusian striker, world champion last summer, was not involved in winning the last title due to her lack of competitive rhythm after the conclusion of her league, but she has already returned to the competition and the coach has once again counted on her for her offensive part.
From the previous call, Tomé has ruled out on this occasion two young players such as the midfielders Fiamma Benítez (Valencia) and María Pérez (Sevilla), while, as planned, he did not call up the Real Madrid full-back Oihane Hernández, who has not She played the last two matches with her club suffering from tendinopathy in the Achilles heel of her left foot.
In any case, the player from Oviedo has not called up any full-back to cover this absence and will be left with two right-handed players like Ona Batlle and Shei García, who remains after returning after a long time in the previous call-up, and a left-footed player like Olga Carmona, although the Blaugrana can play on both sides.
Tomé also maintains his confidence in the young 17-year-old midfielder Vicky López, who debuted with the Absolute in the Nations League semi-final against the Netherlands, and in the forward Alba Redondo, whom he named for the ‘F4’ for for the first time since taking office.
The 23 selected players will start the concentration next Monday, April 1, at the Las Rozas Soccer City (Madrid) where they will be until Thursday when they will head to Belgium, where on Friday the 5th, at 8:45 p.m., they will make their debut in this qualifying phase for next year’s Euro Cup. Subsequently, they will return to Spain to prepare for the second duel on Tuesday the 9th at 7:00 p.m. in El Plantío de Burgos.
