ESPN advances that the US Open continues on its dates

We are following every step of the (restart) procedure, with the great hope of announcing that the 2020 US Open will be played on its scheduled date. ”Chris Widmaier, USTA director of communications, told ESPN journalist Peter Bodo. “We hope to make an announcement in the very near future,” he said.

If the news is finally confirmed, and despite the opposition of a large group of tennis players, among them number one in the world, Novak Djokovic, the US Grand Slam would go ahead from August 31 to September 13, without an audience and with a series of restrictive measures that most players have disliked, including staying at a single hotel at JFK airport in New York and the obligation to go to the Billie Jean King Tennis Center with only one companion. The last word could be with the City and New York State Health Commissions.

This Monday a decision was expected on the US Open and on the rest of the world circuit calendar for the remainder of the year, with a tour in North America and another land tour in Europe before Roland Garros, whose date is most likely from September 27 to October 11, with previous steps through Madrid and Rome. But between the doubts and the lack of unanimity between the tennis players of both the ATP and the WTA, and waiting for a clear opinion from the authorities, the final announcement could be delayed until tomorrow, a possibility that reached the ears of the players.

Calendar

If the USTA plans are followed, the roadmap for the return of tennis could be as follows: Washington (August 10-16), Cincinnati, to be played in New York (August 1-24), US Open without prior and with a table of 24 pairs in doubles (from August 31 to September 13), Madrid (September 13-19), Rome (September 20-26) and Roland Garros (from September 27 to October 11). On the WTA circuit, the competition would return on August 3 in Charleston and Palermo. After Paris, the schedule scheduled for the Asian and European tours would resume with the culmination in the Women's Masters (Shenzhen, from November 1 to 8). The men's is scheduled in London from November 15 to 22, while the Davis Cup Finals are still scheduled in Madrid from November 23 to 29. The rest of the ATP tour through the East and Europe is unknown.
