Espanyol prepares its 120th anniversary

Espanyol has presented this Tuesday the events organized to commemorate its first 120 years of life, which will take place on October 28.

Mao Ye Wu, club advisor, highlighted the difficulties of the celebration in the context of the pandemic and the club's sporting situation “But with this celebration we are laying the foundations for 120 more years,” he remarked.

Coinciding with the match against SD Ponferradina, a series of events have been organized to commemorate the anniversary. First thing in the morning there will be a institutional visit to the tomb of the founder Ángel Rodrígez in the Sant Gervasi cemetery; then the usual wreath to the statue of the fans and, finally, two very dazzling acts: the christening of the presidential box ‘Angel Rodriguez Box’ and the discovery of bust of the founder, which will be installed in the President Room. Although the will of the club was to have the maximum participation of members and fans, the current situation will limit the presence to a very small group.

Over the months, other initiatives will be carried out: printing of the official 120 logo on the shirts competition of the season, the special edition of a commemorative book – coordinated by historian David Tolo (various authors) -, the publication of postcards commemorative and seals with historical images of the club, in addition to merchandising and a series of historic pill videos to be distributed over the next few months. They are also working on commemorative events for the 50 years of the first game of women's football played by RCD Espanyol, a pioneering club.

One of the star products of this season will be commemorative shirt -inspired by the centenary-, which will be premiered before SD Ponferradina and that members and fans will be able to buy from October 28. During the course it will be used when appropriate. “We want to see thousands of parrots, children with this shirt,” Teixidó concluded.
