Españeta, the historic Valencia utility man, dies

Bernardo España 'Españeta', a historic Valencia utility worker, died this Wednesday at the age of 82, fifty-five of whom was linked to the Mestalla club in which his charisma made him an emblematic figure, both for the players and for managers and fans.

“We never would have wanted to have written this. Unfortunately today he has left us ‘Españeta, Valencia's eternal legend,” the club wrote on its social networks.

After the sad announcement, there has been a cascade of reactions from both former players and current members of the entity's first team.

“Great among the greats in the history of Valencia. You taught us what it was to love Valencia, ”wrote David Albelda.

“One more bat flies high from today,” said Toni Lato. “DEP dear brother Bernardo. You have always been and will be our great bat ”, assured Ricardo Arias. “Today a legend has left us. You will always be remembered as one of the most beloved bats in the world ”, pointed out Carlos Soler.

A close friend of players of several generations, kept over and over again in each Valencia title that he lived in the squad, Españeta retired in 2003 and in 2014 he received the gold and brilliant insignia of the Valencian club.
