Eriksen signs for Brentford seven months after suffering cardiac arrest

MADRID, 31 One. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen will play for Brentford in the Premier League until the end of this season, after passing the medical examination and seven months after the cardiac arrest he suffered in the European Championship, the English club confirmed in a statement on Monday.

“Brentford FC can confirm the signing of Danish international midfielder Christian Eriksen. The 29-year-old signed his contract after completing a medical evaluation. He has signed until the end of the 2021/22 season,” the English team announced.

Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest in his team’s European Championship match against Finland on June 12 last year. Months later, he had to terminate his contract with Inter Milan as he was unable to play in Serie A with a defibrillator. Thus, with his incorporation to Brentford, he returns to the Premier League, a competition in which he played for six and a half seasons with Tottenham until January 2020.

Brentford FC head coach Thomas Frank, who coached Eriksen with the Danish U17 side, confessed he is “looking forward to working again” with the midfielder. “It’s been a while since I last coached him. Christian was 16 at the time and he has become one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. He has also won trophies all over Europe and become the star of the Danish national team,” he stressed.

“We have seized an incredible opportunity to bring a world-class player to Brentford. He hasn’t trained with a team for seven months but has done a lot of work on his own. He is fit, I look forward to seeing him work with the players and staff to get back on track.” its highest level,” he wished.

The coach explained that Eriksen “has the ability to read football matches.” “He can find the right passes and he’s a goalscoring threat. He also has a very good set-piece shot. He’s a player you can find on the ball, and he will find a solution to the problem in front of him. Christian will also bring to the club his experience in top-level football. I hope it will have an impact in the locker room,” he said.

Brentford director of football Phil Giles said they can ensure Eriksen is “in the best possible shape to return to competitive football.” “We are sure that Christian will have a big impact at Brentford and in the Premier League between now and the end of the season,” he said.

Christian Eriksen has so far trained with the AFC Ajax subsidiary, the team in which he made his professional debut and where he spent five years, winning three league titles, a Dutch Cup and a Dutch Super Cup, before joining Tottenham.
