English footballer Maddy Cusack dies at 27

MADRID, 21 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The English player of Sheffield United Maddy Cusack died this Thursday, at the age of 27, as her club reported “devastated”, without giving details about the tragic news.

“Sheffield United Football Club is devastated to report the sad news of the passing of Maddy Cusack,” an official statement from the team announced.

Cusack had been part of Sheffield since 2019 and was also a member of the marketing team. A beloved veteran on and off the field, she became the first player to play 100 games for the club last year.

“This is heartbreaking news for everyone at Bramall Lane,” Sheffield United chief executive Stephen Bettis said. “Maddy had a unique position and was popular with everyone, with her personality and professionalism,” he added.

The English Football Federation (FA) also showed their regret and condolences to family and friends, as noted by the director of women’s football, Baroness Sue Campbel, in contact with Sheffield at an “incredibly sad time.”
