MADRID, 21 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The England-Iran match, corresponding to the first day of Group B of the World Cup in Qatar, has inaugurated this Monday the FIFA ‘No Discrimination’ campaign, which was scheduled for the quarterfinals and has been brought forward so that the 32 captains of the participating teams can wear this bracelet during the tournament.
Thus the English striker Harry Kane has worn this bracelet in England’s debut in Qatar, although the Iranian Ehsan Haji Safi has not done so, with the flag of his country on his arm.
In a statement, FIFA recalled that the purpose of the World Cup regulations is “to preserve the integrity within the field of play of all participants and is equally applicable to all teams competing in the tournament.”
“FIFA is an inclusive organization that wants to put football at the service of society by supporting good causes and legitimate causes, although this must be done within the framework of the competition’s regulations, which are known to all,” he added.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has reiterated his support for the LGBTQI+ community during the Qatar 2022 World Cup. “I have discussed this issue with the highest authorities in the country. They have confirmed, and I can confirm, that everyone is welcome. If someone says otherwise, that is not the country’s opinion and certainly not FIFA’s either,” Infantino said.
