England beats Denmark bitterly in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand

MADRID, 28 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The England team got a foot and a half into the round of 16 of the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand after beating Denmark 1-0 this Friday, a victory marred by the probable serious knee injury to Keira Walsh, while, also in Group D, China, with historic refereeing by Marta Huerta de Aza, beat Haiti (1-0), and, in Group G, Argentina and South Africa tied (2-2).

The European champions added their second win in the tournament after the close match achieved against Haiti in their debut (1-0), although their attention is now on the state of health of the FC Barcelona midfielder, a key player in the team. The Englishwoman had an untimely slip and had to leave the field on a stretcher before the break.

Sarina Wiegman’s team made the most of Lauren James’ early goal, who beat Lene Christensen with a powerful shot from outside the box. However, England found it difficult to shine again at the offensive level and in the end they were able to take a displeasure as Amalie Vangsgaard headed the post in the 87th minute.

Denmark is left with three points, the same as China, which used its greater experience to defeat debutants Haiti 1-0 despite playing with ten more than an hour. A penalty from Wang Shuang in the 73rd minute gave the victory to the Chinese in a match that marked the debut of Spanish women’s arbitration in a World Cup in the figure of Marta Huerta de Aza, assisted on one of the wings by Guadalupe Porras Ayuso .

On the other hand, in Group G, Argentina and South Africa signed a two-goal tie that jeopardizes their future as both remain with one point waiting for what happens this Saturday in Sweden-Italy, winners on the first day .

The Argentines and South Africans were looking for the first World Cup victory in their history, and it was the second that came closest as they won 0-2, with goals from Motlhalo and Kgatlana, in the 74th minute. But their rival was able to equalize with two goals in five minutes from Braun and Núñez.
