The victory of the English team (23-26) leaves Argentina without a podium

The English rugby team won this Friday by a tight 23-26 against Argentina in the consolation final of the men’s World Cup, which is being held in France, and thus achieved the first bronze medal in its history.
In a duel held in Saint-Denis, the epicenter of the podium events, the ‘XV de la Rosa’ took joy from a tournament that ended with only one defeat in their locker. After having suffered a painful comeback from South Africa in the semifinals (15-16), the English team redeemed themselves.
Two penalty shots scored by Owen Farrell, and a conversion by him after a try by Ben Earl, put England with a 0-13 start. The ‘Pumas’ responded with a penalty shot taken by Emiliano Boffelli, but Farrell himself responded in the same way (3-16).
Before the break, a try by Tomas Cubelli and the immediate conversion by Boffelli gave oxygen to Argentina (10-16), which even turned the score around upon returning from the locker room. It was thanks to a try by Santiago Carreras and his subsequent conversion, of course, by Boffelli (17-16).
But Theo Dan came to the aid of the ‘XV de la Rosa’ with a try that put them 17-21 up, led to Farrell’s conversion (17-23) and gave him an income that he never gave up again. Once again Farrell took center stage with another punishing blow (20-26) that seemed definitive.
Nicolás Sánchez added excitement to the game, first with a penalty shot taken to establish the 23-26 and then with the key play, a new and complicated penalty that he failed to score in the 75th minute. That defeat left the ‘ Pumas’ with the bitterness of fourth place.
